Course Fee
Prague is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Its inspiring atmosphere, magical historical quarters, eleven centuries of medieval history and stunning mix of architectural styles have fascinated foreigners from the romantic time to date. The historical quarters have still maintained their magic: the unique old town with a large square where a medieval astronomical clock chimes every hour, with a university, multiple spires, and remnants of a large Jewish ghetto; the lesser town on the other side of the river Vltava on the hills below Prague Castle – a braid of zig-zag lanes and staircases, a quarter full of ecclesiastical monuments and gigantic aristocratic palaces and refined gardens. All of these areas are easily accessible by foot, which is the best way to take in the incredible architecture and charm of Prague.
Walking through the city, the sense of history is palpable. A good beginning is to take tram number 22 to Prazky Hrad (Prague Castle). The tram stops just across the street from the castle grounds. Prague castle is said to be the largest castle complex in the world, so don't try to see everything in one day but do try to catch the hourly changing of the guard and don't miss the Saint Vitus Cathedral – hard to do since it's the building which dominates many views of the Prague skyline and took six centuries to build. The views over the city from the castle grounds are amazing. You can then walk downhill into Mala Strana and stop for refreshments at one of the many cafes or restaurants nestled amongst the winding streets and Baroque architecture. It's then a short walk (all downhill again) to Kampa ParkIsland. After spending some time on the riverside you can cross the Charles Bridge, with its famous statues of the saints, artists and street musiciansbuskers, back into the Old Town.
Prague is a true cultural treasure trove, bursting with fascinating museums, galleries, theatres and musical venues. The city regularly plays host to numerous prestigious exhibitions, events, and international festivals. In a historical sense, Prague has always been a cultural city of influence: Mozart wrote "Don Giovanni" here, the great Czech composer Antonín Dvorak spent most of his life here, and Franz Kafka is one of the city's most famous sons. Much of this cultural dominance is because of the early establishment of a university in Prague. In 1348, the Charles University became the first such institution in central Europe, and it immediately began attracting great minds to the city. The role of culture was of course somewhat lessened during the dark days of communist rule, but the Velvet Revolution - initiated by several peaceful Charles University student demonstrations - allowed creativity to flourish again in forms other than those allowed by the authorities. Prague is particularly rewarding for classical music, opera and dance. You will find all things classical, from major concerts in the National Theatre to intimate recitals in churches.
 Prague nightlife is great fun and easy to find, whether a quiet drink in a traditional European cafe; mingling with people from all over the world in the wide variety of bars; exploring the range of clubs and music bars - from the intimate and idiosyncratic places dotted around the city to massive clubs - or visiting the straightforward traditional Czech pubs for superb beer (Pilsner beer was invented in the Czech Republic and the natives, as well as many visitors, regard Czech beer as the best in the world). There is a vibrant, varied live music scene with an exceptional number of small and large venues presenting all types of music.
There is more to the Czech Republic than its famous capital. There are about a dozen world-heritage sites within the Czech Republic, including the breath-taking Karlstejn castle, the unique gothic-renaissance town of Cesky Krumlov with its narrow medieval lanes and charming castle over the river and the lovely Bohemian spa town of Karlovy Vary (which hosts an international film festival). Many of these can be visited on a day trip from Prague and all are within a day's travel. The countryside is beautiful and diverse. Areas like the Sumava mountains and Krkonose National Park provide great hiking and biking in the summer and skiing in the winter.

Where?
Our TEFL course takes place at the Threshold Training Associates language school in Barrandov, Prague 5, a short tram ride from the city centre. The journey from the accommodation to the school takes about 30 minutes by public transport.
Threshold is one of the larger language schools in Prague, with an excellent reputation and a particular focus on teacher development. The premises are very well equipped with nice classrooms and an excellent resource library. In the immediate surroundings are reasonably priced places to eat, and other facilities.
Holding the TEFL course in a working language school offers a number of benefits, including the chance to interact with working teachers, to observe experienced teachers in their classes and to practise your skills with a great group of language learners.

Who?
Our Training Staff
J eremy Carter, Course Director
Jeremy Carter was born and raised in the north-west of England. He took his initial TEFL certification at Thames Valley University in London in 1996 and then obtained his higher qualification, the Cambridge Diploma (DELTA), in 2001.
Jeremy taught English and trained teachers for eight years in the Czech Republic, working for the British Council amongst other schools, before moving to Spain, where he managed a TEFL training school and taught at the prestigious Esade business school. He has trained state (public) school teachers in communicative methodology for the Kong Ju National University of Education, in South Korea. He manged and developed the TEFL International virtual TESOL course while working in Thailand and then moved to Tokyo to set up their new TEFL training centre.
Jeremy now puts his wide experience in teaching and training to good use as the course director for the TEFL International Prague Centre. In his free time he enjoys swimming, travelling, reading and 'pub culture'.
 Gray Krueger, Head Trainer
Gray Krueger hails from Portland, Oregon and has been involved in TEFL since obtaining his initial teaching certification from the University of Wales in 1996. He has trained and taught in Italy, Spain, the USA, the UK, and primarily the Czech Republic. Gray holds a degree in Educational Management from the State University of New York and is currently completing research for his Master of Arts in Adult Learning through Linkoping University in Sweden. His primary academic interests include teaching business English, adult learning theory, and inter-cultural communication. When not working, studying or taking care of his two young children, Gray enjoys cooking, biking, and cinema.
